Plebiscite: the direct vote of all members of an electorate. It is derived from the Latin: plebs (the common person) and scitum (decree or vote).
ABOUT THIS SITE:
The purpose of this site is to support students in the study of A Level Government and Politics. Whilst the site provides some AS material, it is principally designed for second year students studying Ideologies and the Government of the United States. Originally it was intended to cover the AQA specification, and the exemplar answers and 'exam hints' have been developed for that specification. As such, it covers Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Fascism as well as some US Government material. However, it now also includes some additional material for the two Edexcel Ideologies units (Anarchism; Nationalism; Feminism; Ecologism; and Multiculturalism.). The site provides a series of self-directed tutorials which are easy to navigate and which pose ‘Test yourself’ questions at the end of each section. Each ideologies page also has a 'useful quotes' section at the end as examiners in both AQA and Edexcel like to see quotes used appropriately. Good luck!
